The Congregation Dochters van Mary en Joseph is an international congregation with two branches, also called provinces: one in the Netherlands and one in Indonesia. At the head of the congregation is the mother superior, who is chairperson of the General Council. This General Council has its seat in the mother house in ’s Hertogenbosch and is charged with the day-to-day management of the congregation. Both in the Netherlands and in Indonesia, supporting services with dedicated staff members assist the congregation.
Dutch Province
The Dutch province consists of approximately ninety sisters. The majority of sisters is living in the mother house in ’s Hertogenbosch and in Sint Jozefoord in the village of Nuland, which is the congregation’s nursing home. Moreover, some Dutch sisters live in various small communities or on their own.
Indonesian Province
De province of Indonesia consists of seven communities and a noviciate, all established on Java. The council of the Indonesian branch, the provincial council, is domiciled in the city of Wonosobo. There you can also find the noviciate and the Dena-Upakara boarding school for deaf and hearing-impaired children. Every day sisters of the community in Yogyakarta work at the Helen Keller Institute, an institute for the care and education of deaf-blind children.
